Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary, located near Thol village in Mehsana district, Gujarat, is a haven for bird enthusiasts. Established in 1988 and spanning approximately 7 square kilometers, this sanctuary encompasses a shallow freshwater lake surrounded by marshes and scrublands. Originally constructed in 1912 by the Gaekwad rulers as an irrigation reservoir, it has since evolved into a crucial habitat for avian species. The sanctuary boasts over 320 bird species, including flamingos, sarus cranes, pelicans, and various migratory waterfowl. Recognized for its ecological significance, Thol Lake was designated a Ramsar site in 2021, underscoring its importance as a wetland of international importance . The best time to visit is during the winter months, from November to February, when migratory birds flock to the area.
Bahuchar Mata Temple, located in Becharaji, Mehsana district of Gujarat, is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Bahuchara Mata, the goddess of fertility and chastity. Established in 1152 CE by King Sankhal Raj, the temple is a significant pilgrimage site, especially for the hijra community, who regard the goddess as their patroness. The temple complex comprises three main shrines: Adyasthan (original site), Madhyasthan (middle shrine), and the main temple housing the deity's idol. Recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, it's believed to be the spot where Devi Sati's right hand fell. The temple attracts numerous devotees, particularly during the full moon of Chaitra month, seeking blessings for fertility and protection.
